Thank you for visiting Chicken Coop Construction! We developed this website to help people construct their chicken coops. We intend to investigate topics like wood working and building techniques. We will review other websites that already offer products for chicken coops. We will review chicken coop plans and blueprints that are already on the market. Ultimately, we just want to provide valuable information about raising chickens, breeding chickens, buying chickens and, of course, building chicken coops.
We are encouraged by the mass movement of people that are getting back to basic simple chores and tasks. We have become so fast paced and busy that a few chickens in our backyard might do us all a little good. Cars, traffic, computers, cubicles, cell phones, texting, television, radio and just non-stop influx of communication get to be overwhelming when you think about it. It’s the benefit and curse of technology. We believe people are longing for a little peace and quiet. There is something remarkable about building with your hands. It is very rewarding to see the fruits of your labor. Building a chicken coop, for example, brings the satisfaction of seeing the final product. Raising chickens brings that daily connect with nature and we think helps generate an important balance that is much needed in a world completely immersed in technology.
So, we will contribute where we can. If you have your own chicken coop construction story or any do it yourself project that you would like to share, feel free to tell us all about it! Just email us with any feedback, questions or comments at

DIY Chicken Coops is an educational resource and an ecommerce website that offers a good variety of products and the information that explains why those products are necessary. They have chicken coop plans for sale. It looks like they are a reseller for other vendors like Green Roof Chicken Coop and Catawaba Chicken Coops. It’s like any retail store that sets up multiple relationships with various manufacturers. The nice part about them is that they bring value to the end user. They’re not just splashing products all over the screen with prices. They’re helping people work their way through the chicken raising process. They have educational resources on chicken breeds, detailed information on products and excellent information on building chicken coops (since that seems to be what got them started!). Anyway, we’ve watched their website for a while and they are evolving. They started with the idea that they wanted to be a “One Stop Shop” for all your chicken needs. That seems to be exactly where they are headed. Take a look at their website. If you are looking for chicken related products or information on raising chickens, click here to visit DIY Chicken Coops.

When it comes to chicken coop construction, Green Roof Chicken Coop has constructed a few unique chicken coops. The aesthetic appeal to a flourishing green roof is obvious and the concept is certainly synergistic with raising chickens. But, from our perspective, the construction of a green roof chicken coop is more difficult. The roof requires more support. Incorporating drainage might be critical if you live in an area with significant rain or even significant seasonal rain. We’ve looked at the plans for Green Roof. The original green roof chicken coop does not have drainage as a part of the design. However, we think it would be easy to add by drilling some holes in the side and adding a PVC drain or pipe. Most ground is not level so it would just be a matter of using a level on the top of the chicken coop and putting the drains on the lower side. It really doesn’t require much of a slope to drain. If you happen to have perfectly level ground, you can always elevate one side artificially. As for the herb garden chicken coop, they have drainage built into the design. They seem to be getting smarter! We are looking forward to the next design and really look forward to seeing a large green roof chicken coop! Anyway, the chicken coop plans for the Original Green Roof Chicken Coop were done in Auto Cad and are very detailed (70 pages) and the plans for the Herb Garden Chicken Coop were done in Google Sketch-up and every bit as detailed (120 pages). We want to make sure you are not intimidated by the large number of pages. They are meant to take you step by step and get you to the end of the project successfully. The plans include shopping lists, cut lists and illustrated instructions that walk you through the process. Each set of plans cost $34.95. If you like the design and want to visit their website, just click on the pictures below.
